the impermanence of things

 .
three months after the accident
the bruise beneath my fingernail
looks like a Chinese brush painting
made with blood

a tree on a hilltop
overlooking the sunset
all of it slowly floating away
complete with calligraphed characters
in the upper right hand corner

emphasizing the impermanence of things

  1. That is a really lovely poem, and I'm glad you can find such beauty in it.

But I'll be honest: I've seen it and all I could think was "ew, poor finger."

  2. You can only think, "Ewww," so many times before you have to turn it into art. : ) (And I'd like to believe the "ew" factor excuses the mix of Japanese and Chinese aesthetics . . .) Win-win.
